1966 Ford Mustang GT350R clone.  This Mustang is an exact replica of the Shelby GT350R, number 16, as raced by Freddy van Buren.  Mr. van Buren raced the car to a National B Production SCCA championship in 1966 as well as winning his class at Sebring and Daytona.  This particular car, whose nickname is Freddy, was built by noted Mustang builder Todd Landon (www.mustangstogo.com).  The body was stripped bare and built specifically for the Carrera Panamericana.  The body was kept as light as possible with drilled and light weighted sheet metal with fabricated external hood and trunk hinges.  The roll cage is made from Chrome Moly tubing and welded into the chassis.  Needless to say the interior is race car bare with two Recaro seats with new Willans 6 point safety belts.  A new Firesafe fire system is installed to cover the driver’s and engine compartment.  The approximate weight of the car with a quarter tank is less than 2800 lbs.  This is about as light as a production Shelby ever was. As with the original car, the engine is a solid-roller 289 with a 331 stroker crank.  It features a beautiful Willy’s 750 carburetor with adjustable metering blocks and custom made headers.  An available dyno sheets shows a maximum of 453 hp @ 6200 rpm with 409 lbs of torque @ 5200 rpm.  The front suspension consists of Global West fabricated A arms with Koni shocks and Wilwood brakes.  The rear is a Currie 9” Positraction with 3.50 gears and Wilwood brakes as well.  The fuel cell measure 22 gallons.  The dashboard has Autometer gauges with a GPS Terratrip computer.  The Mustang is California registered.  This very fast car ran as high as 5^th overall in the 2006 Panamericana driven by Tom Silver and Gerie Bledsoe.  Freddy ran in the Texas 1000 in 2009 and was featured in Vintage Motorsports, May 2010.
